Sage Fast Slow Cooker Pro Review – Sage by Heston Blumenthal Pressure Cooker

Sage Fast slow cooker pro

I always wanted the one kitchen appliance that could do everything. Yes, everything; cook, fry, sauté, boil, roast, bake…and as a plus, could read my mind too – and yet, I must admit that Sage’s The fast slow cooker threw me off quite a bit. As a result I decided to write a Sage Fast Slow Cooker Review. Here is what you need to know about The Sage Fast Slow Cooker Pro. The company is also called Breville

I’m sure you see it too.

Tucked safely in the name is a gentle promise to over-deliver, a familiar lie in typical  21st-century merchandising – because, in reality, nothing can solve all your problems; or, so I thought…

Sage by Heston Blumenthal’s The Fast Slow Cooker Pro may in fact, be an exception to the rule.

How? You may ask.

Good question.

Unlike you, food does respond well to pressure; and it is on the basis of this principle that the fast slow cooker pro operates – a multifunctional cooker with pressure and slow cook menus that automatically adjusts time, temperature and pressure between fast and slow cooking, it can regulate food temperature and pressure requirements invariably, and can be switched intermittently to conditions that suit specific foods. Which, you must admit – is a little mind blowing.

The fast slow pro – and all its many components

It’s Interactive LCD which Tells you when it’s building pressure, cooking and releasing steam, a Start/Select Dial feature that lets you control it all – including  the Temperature/ Pressure Dial to specify pressure levels which range from low for delicate foods to high for extra fast cooking and as well as a Time Dial.

A Keep Warm feature that Holds food at safe serving temperatures for up to 2 hours and Can be automatically enabled at the end of pressure or slow cook cycles.

A Safety Locking Pin which pops up once pressure is reached, acting as a safety locking device, and a Lid Arm for easy handling.

At this point, I could just say, this is a good buy, let’s get out there and each get one – but that wouldn’t be a fun read would it?

Sage Fast Slow Cooker Pro – It’s 12 Smart Menu

The fast slow pro has a 12 option built in menu, automated to suit every selection.

Featured on its LCD display panel, it is this hassle-free, dump-in, shut-lid, select and walk away feature that really takes the cake, on top of which you could exploit its keep warm feature to your advantage after its automated timer shuts off by itself. Talk about technology!

Before I get too excited, here is the 12 menu option available on the fast slow pro;

  1. Rice
  2. Rissoto
  3. Potato
  4. Stock
  5. Soup
  6. Legumes
  7. Casserole

  10. Bolognese
  11. Pudding
  12. And a custom feature: that allows you set your preferred requirement for whatever you may be cooking; which actually puts the menu at 11

After all said and done – Let’s bring it all home shall we?

Sage Fast Slow Cooker Pro – THE GOOD

You Can Make it slow

The fast slow pro has a Slow cook setting is which is said to be similar to Low setting on traditional slow cookers, however, it also has the added benefit of searing or browning in the same cooking vessel to retain heat and intensify flavors.

You Can Make It Fast

Its 8 pressure settings accommodate a wide variety of meals—high for fast cooking, medium for tender meats and low for delicate foods.

You Can Make It Like A Pro

It’s Sear, Sauté, Reduce, Simmer and Steam settings make it easy to cook a wide range of dishes and the dual sensors provide accurate pressure and temperature control smart pressure and slow cook settings. And don’t forget the No-mess moat feature that prevents drips and guarantees you a scrub free future.

You Can Make It Safely

Its Three-way safety system features a locking lid, hands-free steam release and a safety valve for worry-free pressure cooking.

THE VERY GOOD

It’s Price

You will find that its counterparts, with similar features, are pegged at much steeper rates. It’s a little thrifty if I must say.

It’s Reduce button

This was a revelation stumbled to a user; After making a pie filling one day, she took out the meat and vegetables from the liquid and put to one side, and Then hit the reduce button and the machine turned into the best gravy maker in town, boiling the liquid and reducing it to a delicious thick gravy to pour over your pie.  Amazing!

Sage Fast Slow Cooker Pro – It’s Other Practicalities

My favorite thing about the Sage Pressure cooker has to be the prospect of not having a lot of dishwashing to do; its multiple functionality feature means you can sauté meat, remove, and then sauté onions and vegetables, add everything else at once and then shut the lid, switch on the appliance to pressure cook or slow cook as the recipe determines.

Plus It’s cleaning afterwards is very simple, and you can wash the removable pot and if desired, and the lid too.

Sage Fast Slow Cooker Pro – THE NOT-SO-GOOD

It takes a while to pre-heat, chipping in slightly to the already shortened cook-time

Like with most pressure pots, some users complain that it under delivers with deserts; with the middle of the treat remaining raw while the surrounding sponge becomes dry and crusty.

At 9kg the thing must be huge, and it’s said to periodically vent, loudly, like an old-time locomotive; But then again, considering that it’s doing all that work…you can’t really expect much less.

How to Use the Fast Slow Pro

WELL?

‘Some foods are tender with time, others are tastier under pressure, but how do you know the pressure, temperature and time different foods need?’

Well – you don’t.

Leave it to the pros;

Actually, it’s the fast slow cooker pro but, let’s not quibble.
